AES Corporation Presents
The Indianapolis Prize Gala 2008
Dr.
George B. Schaller, world renowned field biologist and the recipient of the
2008 Indianapolis Prize, was honored at the second Indianapolis Prize Gala
presented by the AES Corporation on September 27, 2008, at the downtown
Marriott Hotel. This spectacular night of entertainment, co-hosted by
Jane Alexander and Sam Waterston, not only honored the winner, but all the
finalists for the 2008 Prize and the work that they do to conserve the
wildlife and wild places of this Earth. Dr. Schaller (third from right)
holds the Lilly Medal, surrounded by (left to right) Sam Waterston,
Indianapolis Zoo President & CEO Michael Crowther, former Zoo Board of
Trustees Chair Pawel Fludzinski, Indianapolis Prize Chair Myrta Pulliam, and
Jane Alexander.
It was a beautiful candlelit dinner for over 800 at the downtown Marriott
Hotel. The program included some beautiful and emotionally impactful
videos on all the finalists for the Prize. Including Schaller, four of
the finalists were present, and each received a rousing standing ovation
from the crowd. In the audience were Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, Dr. Rodney
Jackson and Dr. Laurie Marker. The highlight of the evening was the
presentation to Dr. Schaller of the Lilly Medal, emblematic of the 2008
Indianapolis Prize, and his acceptance speech, prompting everyone to more
action to save the world's endangered animals. The evening concluded
with a stirring performance of "From a Distance" by the Eastern Star Choir
and some fun from an acrobatic troupe called Electric Cirque.
